We are some of the chosen few to actually launch a new social network, and create it from the ground up. literally. On whether Google is trying to kill Facebook... well.... Facebook used to be one of the "other sites" you could enable in Friend Connect like Orkut and Plaxo are now. Facebook walked on the deal and then created their own "friend connect" application.
